Remember this?
That’s right. A wooden shoe rack from Goodwill.
At least that’s what she was in her former life.
For the longest time I have been wanting a sling bookshelf for our playroom. These bookshelves are often found in preschools and classrooms because it is so easy for kids to see each book looking at it’s cover rather than the spine. I also just like how they look.
I don’t however like the price tag. $40 was the least expensive I could find with decent reviews. Add on tax and shipping…
Let’s just say I knew there was a cheaper way and I wasn’t going to spend that money when I didn’t have to. So here is my version of a sling bookshelf.
I think she’s pretty perfect.
Cost breakdown:
$1.98 shoe rack + $5 colored denim fabric + $8 velcro strips = $15 for my thrifty version!

very practical idea. thank you.
a reading room stimulates children to read, and a well-read child does well in school and in life.
Soooo withyour creativity you are doing good in the world.

I never would have thought to do that! That is such a great idea! Must be much easier than lining up the spines on conventional bookcases every.single.day.(UGH!) :D
This is such a great idea!! I'm kicking myself now for getting rid of that old shoe rack!
