A Pillow Embellishment Tutorial

Not all pillows want to be plain jane. Especially a brown one that I have in my family room. It was begging me for a makeover… literally.

“Help me! Make me pretty!”

I had to help her.

First, I started by picking a word I wanted to add to the pillow and then searched for the perfect font. This part took the longest. I’m so indecisive! After I made my selection, I printed it out from Word and cut out each letter individually.

Then I applied HeatNBond to the back of my chosen fabric. I was glad to find one I liked in my stash at home. I’m sure my husband will also be proud. Once the HeatNBond is on the fabric, flip each letter backwards and trace.

Then cut.

Then peel and iron.

I decided to add some buttons for the dot of the “i”. I’m considering to put one in the middle of the “a”—what do you think? Really… please give me your opinion. I don’t want to ruin my pillow if I don’t have to. (Thanks in advance!)

Now I can stand back and admire my work… that cost me absolutely nothing. All my materials were already at home. A project can’t get any better than being FREE!

  4. I'm with you on the indecisiveness! I've been known to spend days working on a project then scrapping it and starting over just because I wanted a different font. The pillow looks great, but I think I would put a button in the middle of the a. The buttons over the i look cute.
